Description

La Libre Esthetique – Art by Georges Lemmon (1908) 19″ x 25.5″ Belgian Exhibition Poster LB La Libre Esthetique (literally translates to “Free Aesthetics”) was an artistic society founded in 1893 in Brussels, Belgium to continue the efforts of the artists’ group Les XX which was dissolved the same year. The first annual exhibition opened in 1894, and the exhibition of 1914 was the last. For La Libre Esthetique’s Jubilee Exhibition, Lemmon situates a draped nude holding a rose at a balance between the classical ideal and the erotic present.
